| This retreat will incorporate Sarah’s unique style of passive Yin poses with an active or Yang (flow) practice to assist in balancing our overall well being, while opening the body and enlivening the mind for meditation. Yin yoga is an essential complement to our active, strong practices and lives.
The Yin style keeps the body supple at its core while encouraging stagnate chi (prana) to flow throughout the joints, balancing the organ and meridian systems. Drawing from Buddhism, Sarah will give talks during the Yin practice to encourage a greater capacity for emotional maturity and mindful awareness in our practices, as well as in our lives. A Yang (flow style) asana practice will follow, geared toward strengthening the core while encouraging ease and grace in movement.
We will begin each day in a silent sitting meditation practice. The longer morning yoga sessions will incorporate both Yin and Yang yoga, followed by meditation.
The afternoon classes will consist of Yin yoga, Pranayama and Mindfulness meditation practices.
The evenings will be free to socialize, spend quiet time reading, or come back into the yoga room for meditation.
There will be plenty of opportunities to visit the nearby beaches and town of Goa and immerse yourself in the unique experience that is India, as well as finding quiet, reflective time to enhance your intimacy with your inner life.
Sarah Powers began teaching in 1987. She interweaves the insights and practices of Yoga and Buddhism into an integral practice to enliven the body, heart and mind.
Her yoga style blends both a Yin sequence of long held poses to enhance the meridian and organ systems, combined with a flow or Yang practice, influenced by Viniyoga, Ashtanga, and alignment based teachings.
Her Buddhist training in Insight Meditation includes many retreats with Spirit Rock trained teachers, time spent in a Monastery in Burma, and a dharma teacher training with Bhante Gunaratana. She has also sat a number of Zen and Chan retreats.
Her main influence for the last 7 years has been the Dzogchen teacher, Tsoknyi Rinpoche. She teaches retreats with her husband Ty, and together they home school their teenage daughter, Imani Jade. They live in Marin, CA.
