Richard Freeman - A Western master whose teachings have inspired thousands
As an accomplished yoga instructor and one that has studied and lived for nearly 9 years in India and Asia, Freeman is an avid student of both Western and Eastern philosophy. His understanding and knowledge of Sanskrit allows him to impart and give a clear understanding to the Yoga Sutra, an ancient text on the practice of yoga.
|
He incorporates various traditions into the Ashtanga Yoga practice taught by his principal teacher, K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. His background includes Bhakti and traditional Hatha Yoga in India, Sufism in Iran, Zen and Vipassana Buddhist practice, and an in-depth study of Iyengar Yoga. Richard Freeman lives with his family in Boulder, Colorado, where he is the director of the Yoga Workshop.
Freeman first travelled to India in 1968, where he began a lifetime of study with the living masters of yoga and its mysteries. Now he teaches these authentic lessons and their original subtelties, with the questions and concerns of the serious Western yoga student in mind.
In his seminal course "The Yoga Matrix", Freeman delves into many areas including how the major schools of yoga relate to each other, the body's place in the Matrix, Nadis, Kundalini energy, Yamas and Niyamas and much more.
In his excellent work "Yoga Breathing" Richard Freeman expounds the mysteries and demystifies pranayama in its many practices.
He shows us how radiant health and well-being come about through the practice of correct and focused pranayama breathing techniques.
