This beautiful extended CD features Krishna Das singing original songs, invocations and Sanskrit prayers accompanying himself on harmonium, with Esraj, violin, cello, organ, trumpet, piano and guitar.
They all merge into a deep river of flowing Sanskrit and Hindi verses and music. There is an entrancing duet, 'Mere Guru Dev,' performed by Krishna Das and his daughter Janaki. The result is a deeply soulful portrait of a man connecting with that inner spirit which is only found in the depths of solitude.
One can palpably feel the intensity of Krishna Das' soul connection and the transparent emotions that are called forth. It is transforming in its power of devotion and, almost miraculously, this outpouring from an open heart was captured for posterity.
Finally, this is a record that allows the listener into his or her own personal space whether practicing yoga, meditating or decompressing from the stress of the work-a-day world. From song to song the listener is drawn into a place that is rarely captured in a recording.
